Refugees Welcome Hounslow Hold Their AGM

Invite you to hear of their achievements and volunteer to help

Refugees Welcome Hounslow is preparing to support more refugees arriving from the Middle East as part of a UK Government resettlement scheme.

Refugees Welcome

The local action group, founded three years ago, has been working in partnership with Hounslow Council to welcome families, couples and single people displaced by the war in Syria.  As well as helping source accommodation, RWH gathers household items needed by the new arrivals and provides ongoing support through its befriending scheme.  It matches volunteers with individual households to offer friendship and practical support, particularly with improving English language skills and with job seeking.  RWH also aims to promote social inclusion, and holds regular events that bring refugees and volunteers together.

Some 25 refugees have arrived in the borough in the last two years under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme which is run by the UK government in conjunction with the United Nations’ refugee commission; Hounslow Council is expecting to receive several further households in 2020.

RWH is always keen to hear from potential volunteers and would like to invite anyone who is interested to its Annual General Meeting.  This is taking place on Tuesday 29th October at 7.30pm.  For more information, contact refugeeswelcomehounslow@gmail.com or ring 07746 819960. or Facebook/RWHounslow/
