Brentford School for Girls sees improving results
Students in Hounslow are celebrating after receiving another strong set of A-level results in 2010’s examinations.
Across the borough, 98 per cent of students obtained a pass grade in their A-levels, a result above the national average.
At the higher end of the grades, A* - B grades accounted for 47% of examination entries.
There were striking improvements in top grades at Feltham Community College, Brentford School for Girls and Longford Community.
Gunnersbury Catholic School achieved exceptional results, with 70% gaining A*-B grades, a 7% increase from the previous year, and 41% of entries securing passes at A*-A.
In the new A* category, designed to determine exceptional standards, 6% of all entries across the borough received the top grade. Over 13% of entries at The Green School achieved an A* grade, highlighting their outstanding performance in meeting the new gold standard for A-Level education.
Cllr Sachin Gupta, lead member for education at Hounslow Council, said “I am very proud of Hounslow's students and the sustained improvement achieved in the borough's schools.
“The securing of higher grades within the new A* category, is especially pleasing. I should like to recognise the hard work by students and their teachers and wish the young people great success in the future."
Judith Pettersen, Director of Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning at Hounslow Council said “I am delighted to see another strong set of results in the borough.
"Many congratulations to all Hounslow students who have achieved university entrance in such a competitive national context. As well as our A-levels students, I would like to congratulate those who have done so through BTEC and other applied routes."
• At Chiswick Community School, two students, Edward Cook and Jordan Brown, achieved grades of 3 A* and an A and 3A*s respectively. Both students are bound for Cambridge to read Natural Sciences at Corpus Christi College.
• At The Green School, two girls gained 3A* and 1 A grade.
• At The Heathland School, 3 students achieved A* grades in all subjects.
• At Isleworth and Syon School, Mustafa Franka and Sandeep Unwith were this years top performers with 3 A*s and 1 A, and special mention should be made of the Sabri triplets, Farooq, Hasan and Omar who each gained an A* and three A grades.
• Hounslow Manor will be sending their first ever student to Oxbridge, Ieva Lismane will be studying Philosophy, Politics and Society at Murray Edward College, Cambridge
