Local Community Cashback - Well Done Brentford!

Helping to rebuild Rose Community Centre

A month ago, readers were asked to vote for Brentford in a new scheme called Community Cashback.

Community Cashback is a new scheme in England and Wales which gives local people a say in how £4 million of recovered criminal assets (for example confiscated cash or property) should be spent in their communities.

Four schemes have won funding, in Barking & Dagenham, Croydon and Havering.

The fourth scheme is the Community Involvement Days in Brentford, winning £26,900 to be spent on the following four projects with the fifth (Dukes Meadows) having since found funding).

Rose Community Centre, Brentford.
This centre was subjected to an arson attack, the centre is used by a local nursery group, elderly residents and youths, it is the hub of this local community, and is an integral part of the community. Internal and external painting.

The Southville Centre
This centre is used by many different members of the community, the reason we are looking to rejuvenate this centre is it is used by young carers as a place to get respite, we believe they deserve a place that is clean and welcoming. Internal and external painting.

Sutton Bowls/Cricket Club
Numerous reports have been received over the last 6 months regarding this building it has been abandoned for some time and is being used by local undesirables as a place to hang. We would like to make the area safe and secure so that the land can be used again by local residents.

Kingsley Road Youth Centre
This centre is used by a wide variety of youths across our community, Hounslow African and Asian Youth Association [HAAYA] are based at this youth centre and offer invaluable advice for youths from ethnic minorities. Internal and external painting.

Under the leadership of ICG and Isleworth Councillor, Paul Fisher, the ICG recently ran a campaign urging residents of the Syon estate to vote for Hounslow Council's bid for funding through the Community Cashback scheme, to re-decorate the Rose Centre following a recent fire and the ICG are pleased to announce that  the Rose centre is now in line to receive £6725.

After hearing the news, Councillor Paul Fisher, Lead member for Community Engagement, said: "I am delighted at the decision to award Hounslow this funding and I am particularly pleased for the residents of the Syon estate. I would like to thank everyone that voted for this project and would also like to thank the three Syon ward councillors for working with me on this.

"I am extremely proud to have been a part of this bid and it has been a real pleasure working with councillors from all political parties in order to secure this funding. Community engagement is about involving the residents of the borough in the decision making process regardless of their political allegiances."
