Recent Bike Thefts and Upcoming Bike Events

Mark it, lock it and don't lose your bike!

Brentford has recently had an increase in the number of bicycle thefts, and Brentford SNT would like to remind everyone to make sure that whenever your bike is left unattended, even for a couple of minutes, it is left in or attached to a secure object.

Many of the bike thefts are occurring in the early evening and now the summer holidays are here many more people are going to be out and about on bikes and we wish to put a stop to this before more people lose their bikes.

Brentford SNT is going to be holding several cycle events over the coming months where they will be registering your bikes onto the immobilise database and marking bikes. Immobilise is the world's largest FREE register of possession ownership details and together with its sister sites the Police's NMPR and CheckMEND, forms a very effective tool in helping to reduce crime and repatriate recovered personal property to its rightful owners. This online checking service is used by all UK Police forces to trace owners of lost and stolen property. In addition Immobilise is checked daily by a huge range of recovery agencies and lost property offices. Once again this service is completely free and one of the best ways, once stolen property is found, in returning it to the rightful owner.

SNT will be sending out leaflets, posters and advertising on the internet to inform those who may be interested when and where these events will take place.

If you notice anyone acting suspicious around bicycles then please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team. If you then see them steal the bike please ring 999 and give the operator their direction of travel and a brief description of them, their clothing and the bike. Please also get in contact if anybody approaches you in the street claiming to be selling bikes.
