A 4.5km section of the main is being relined with a tough plastic inner-pipe between Twickenham High Street and Brentford football stadium to help prevent future bursts.

On Monday 10 January Thames Water and the London Borough of Hounslow will be holding a drop-in session for people who were affected by the two bursts, in August and September, in Isleworth and Brentford. The drop-in will take place at the Holiday Inn, Brentford, and will run from 5pm until 8pm.

Members of Thames Water's operations team and officers from the London Borough of Hounslow, including the Contingency Planning Unit, will be available to answer any questions or concerns from residents and traders who were impacted.

Kathryn Moore, Thames Water's project manager, said:

"This main burst twice over the summer and caused a great deal of disruption. We owe it to local people to sort it out.

"Unfortunately, as with any work on this scale, there will be inevitable traffic disruption for which we apologise, but we would like to assure residents that we will do everything we can to reduce this as much as possible."

Ruth Cadbury, deputy leader of the London Borough of Hounslow said:

"When the main burst twice earlier this year, both incidents brought severe disruption and upheaval to many residents, traders and motorists in the borough and we are extremely keen to avoid any repetition of this in the future.

"We have been working closely with Thames Water in advance of the mains replacement project to advise on traffic management and consultation and will continue to do so as the scheme progresses to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum especially amongst those who were inconvenienced by the bursts themselves.

"As well as providing an opportunity to find out more about the project, local people will also have a chance to speak directly to both representatives from Thames Water and the London Borough of Hounslow if they have any further concerns or queries which have yet to be resolved following the actual incidents."
