The future of Brentford - it's up to you

Council commence important survey into the next steps for TW8

Residents and businesses are being encouraged to give their views on new plans for future development in Brentford as Hounslow Council begins consultation on the Brentford Area Action Plan.

The aim is to take stock of changes to the area and look ahead to see how local people want to see this part of the borough develop in the future.

An Options questionnaire sets out some of the issues that are being covered, including:

· What choices do we need to make about housing in the area?
· How do you want to see Brentford Town Centre develop in the future?
· How much employment land do we need, and where should it be?
· What should be the future role of the Great West Road?
· How can we make better us of Brentford’s waterways?
· Are we making the best use of Brentford’s open spaces?
· Is noise becoming an increasing problem for Brentford residents?
· Are you concerned about air pollution in Brentford?
· How can we reduce the amount of waste produced in Brentford?
· Do existing health, community, education and social facilities serve the community well? Can they cope with increasing numbers of people?

The Brentford Plan will have a major influence on new development, and affect everyone who lives, works or simply visits the area. Cllr John Chatt, Hounslow’s Executive Member for Positive Regeneration, said: “There are already major developments taking place in Brentford. The Brentford Plan looks at a wide area, from Gillette Corner to Chiswick Roundabout and down to the Thames.

“We want to know how people would like to see Brentford evolve. Only by taking part in the consultation process can the new Brentford Plan reflect the hopes of the local community.“

The Council is also carrying out the first stage of consultation on the future of industrial estates and offices across the borough in preparation of an Employment Development Plan. This will eventually replace the existing employment policies and designations in the Unitary Development Plan, Adopted December 2003.

Both consultations are available at www.hounslow.gov.uk, or by emailing ldf@hounslow.gov.uk or calling 020 8583 5202. The documents are also available at all libraries and most shops along Brentford High Street.
