CPZ for Hamilton Road

July Extra from Councillor Matt Harmer

*A4 update*

We've also had an update from the person managing the A4 improvements. It's a longish document and you can see it at my ward colleague Ruth Cadbury's website at http://www.ruthcadbury.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/a4-crossings-update-message-from.html   Ruth and I will welcome any thoughts.

Councillors approved a controlled parking zone for Hamilton Road last week. The consultation showed that there was support for a CPZ, that there was majority support for limited hours, and there was support for Saturday operation. I suggested, and colleagues agreed, that the CPZ should operate 2pm to 3pm Monday to Saturday. There was some anger that there were no morning controls during the week. My feeling was that controlled parking needs to be as simple as possible and when you have different hours of operation on different days, things start getting tricky. I also asked for a full consultation after the CPZ has been introduced, so there is always the opportunity to change things. It will be interesting to see if the Saturday controls stay popular. The fixture list below shows 18 fixtures on a Saturday over the next twelve months.

*Picnic time*

On Wednesday August 1st, I might see you at The Great Brentford Picnic - a fixture on the local events calendar and a great day out for all the family that drew a crowd of over 3,000 local people last year.

This year, to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games, the event will adopt a ‘community sports day’ theme; offering free, fun, sport-related activities for everyone to enjoy. The Brentford Community Sports Day takes place at St Paul’s Recreation Ground, Brentford, from 12pm – 4pm on Wednesday 1st August 2012.

Activities on offer during the event include: flag designing, face painting, field sports, welling flipping, tug of war, football assault course, an inflatable football pitch and much more. In keeping with the global theme of the day, every child who attends will be given an ‘activity passport’ - a way to collect achievement stamps from each activity station they visit. Children who collect 5 or more stamps will receive a medal and certificate on the day. They will also be entered into a special prize draw for a chance to win tickets to a Brentford FC home match for the upcoming 2012/13 season, with the winners announced at 3.30pm.

Bring a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere. The day will be wrapped up with live Zambian music and dance performed by volunteers from the Hounslow-based international project, Global Xchange.
