Sunday Parking Restrictions Planned for Chiswick High Road
Hounslow Council to start consulting this summer
Hounslow Council is planning to explore restricting free Sunday parking in Chiswick.
It is understood the Council will be bringing forward proposals to introduce parking charges as part of the cycle superhighway scheme, and hopes to start a consultation in the summer or early autumn.
Some residents in Chiswick have been complaining about parking along the High Road and side roads on Sundays, particularly on corners. They have also complained about lack of enforcement. Another complained about the level of air pollution on a Sunday.
Local businesses are generally against the idea as they believe it will have a seriously negative impact on trade.
We have learned that the Council's Traffic Department is planning to start a consultation as early as this summer on the question of restrictions on Sunday parking.
This is believed to come under the 'super cycle highway scheme' which includes Chiswick as a 'quiet gateway', not as part of the main highway.
TfL are currently consulting on plans for three new sections of cycle superhighway, one of which is a western extension of the east-west route that would run along the A40 Westway flyover towards Acton.
Segregated cycle lanes and junction changes will now extend to all 32 boroughs, with work on a “significant number” of the projects to be underway by 2016. The Quietways scheme is intended to target “cycle routes on less segregated roads on streets with less traffic”, and this is to include Chiswick High Road.
