This Tuesday morning (28 November) saw the launch of a new convenience store in West Ealing.

Asda Express is part of a new concept from the supermarket giant and the branch at 96-122 Uxbridge Road is just the fourth standalone store of this kind in the country.

Asda says the local branch will generate 16 new jobs in the area and offer over 3,000 products including fresh, ambient and chilled groceries, as well as a broad selection of beers, wines and spirits.

It will also offer a variety of additional services including a Costa Coffee machine, an ATM and Lotto. The store will be open from 7am – 11pm, Monday – Sunday.

The roll out of Asda Express is part of Asda’s long-term strategy to become the UK’s second largest supermarket by establishing a presence in the convenience sector. Asda plans to launch a further 300 standalone Express stores by the end of 2026.

Andy Perry, MD of Convenience at Asda said, “We’re excited to be bringing our new convenience offering to Ealing and we’re confident the store will offer customers everything they need - whether that’s popping in for a pint of milk, grabbing a spot of lunch on the go, or buying the fresh ingredients to cook dinner from scratch.

“We’re also delighted to be welcoming 16 new colleagues to the Asda family and thank them for their hard work so far in bringing our convenience vision to life.”

Last month, Asda accelerated its move into the convenience market with the launch of a programme to convert 119 convenience stores acquired from the Co-op last year. It started to rebrand these stores last month. The retailer also completed its acquisition £2.07bn of EG Group UK in October, which will see a further 356 convenience stores on petrol forecourts converted to Asda Express.

This is in addition to its existing estate of 580 supermarkets and 31 Asda Living stores.
