Ealing based BBC weather man Tomasz Schafernaker has taken to social media to proudly declare he has achieved one of his goals – having his art featured and for sale in an Ealing Gallery.

The popular Polish born Meteorologist, who studied at the University of Reading, joined the BBC in 2000 as a broadcast assistant and went on to become the youngest man to present the BBC Weather. In 2017 he was named Britain’s favourite weather presenter and has a huge fan base with 55 thousand following on Instagram.

He has long been interested in art and his various celebrity portraits including David Attenborough, have been widely acclaimed. In 2021 he won Sky Celebrity Landscape Artist of the year.

On his own website he describes himself as both a scientist and artist and says ‘’ When I tap into my creative side, I find myself irresistibly drawn to two artistic extremes: realism and abstraction.’’

This week, on the Facebook platform, he told his followers, ‘ A goal of mine this year was to have a couple of pieces of my art work displayed somewhere locally and today it’s happening.’’

Tomasz works across media, from acrylic paint to watercolour, oil to graphite. He says “Since my early years, I have been captivated by the awe-inspiring wonders of nature - from the striking beauty of dramatic skyscapes to the magnificence of the animal kingdom. The interplay of light and movement in the natural world has never ceased to ignite my imagination and serves as a profound inspiration for both my artistic pursuits and my career as a meteorologist and broadcaster.”

Punta Cana Cumulus ( 2021) is inspired by photographs from the 2018 Caribbean hurricane season. The original oil study portrays a shower cloud off the coast of the Dominican Republic.

He says, “Using impressionistic brushstrokes and soft pastels, I aimed to capture the billowing nature of the morning cumulus clouds and their captivating forms against the rising sun.’’

Meanwhile Bali Sunset (2023) reflects what he describes as a “breathtaking sunset” he witnessed during a recent birthday trip to Bali: “It inspired me to create this acrylic, monsoon cloudscape. Using expressive brushstrokes and vibrant neons, the vista showcases scattered light dancing across various layers of cloud with reflections along a windswept beach.”

His work is on now on display and the digital prints with a limited edition of 40, available at £785. However, the first five sold in each edition are being made at the special reduced price of £700.

For Arts Sake 45 Bond Street is next to Ealing Green and can be contacted at info@forartssake.com.
