A 34-year-old Ealing resident, Sam Challenor, lost his friend Simon to lymphoma back in 2022.

To give something back to a cause that had become close to his heart, he decided to take on the Every Day Active challenge over the course of the last year.

He was supporting Lymphoma Action, the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

This involved him completing over 400 daily challenges including runs, cycles, open water swimming, rock climbing and strength workouts.

Sam said, “Simon had such a lust for life, and lived life to the full.

“He was a physio and helped to build my knee back after several operations, which enabled me to get back to fitness as quickly as possible. I would spend two hours a week in physio sessions with him for the best part of a year and we would chat the breeze about life. He became a very close friend and was a great inspiration – even remaining active until a few days before he passed away.

“I wanted to do something in Simon’s memory, so I set myself the challenge of completing meaningful exercise every day throughout 2023 and into 2024.

“This couldn’t be something I was already doing, like cycling to work. It had to be purposeful and at least 30 minutes in length, unless it involved walking where it had to be at least an hour or over 5km with a raised heart rate.”

So far, he has raised over £2,300 and, if you want to add to the total, Sam’s fundraising page can be found here.

He has not stopped yet and he adds, “I am currently on challenge number 404 and still counting! All donations will allow Lymphoma Action to continue their work supporting people affected by lymphoma and their families.”

Laura Thompson-Watts, Challenge Events Fundraiser at Lymphoma Action said, “We are so grateful to Sam for his support as he continues this amazing challenge.

“Every 26 minutes one of us is diagnosed with lymphoma. Thanks to people like Sam, we can continue to provide vital information and support to make sure no one has to face lymphoma alone.”

Lymphoma Action is inviting everyone to join #TeamLymphoma in 2024 for a fundraising challenge to support their work in providing people with the information and support they need during their lymphoma diagnosis, treatment and beyond. The Charity has many challenges to get involved in, with something for all ages and abilities.
