Gun, car and racist crimes on the increase in the borough
Crime in London is at it's lowest level for at least ten years according to figures released by the Met Police. Overall there were fewer murders, and knife crime was down too.
Locally however there has been a slight overall increase in reported crimes. Gun crimes have risen from 78 in 2008 to 102 last year. There have been increases in rape and other sexual offences, violence against the person and racist and homophobic offences.
Acting Chief Superintendent Ian Jenkins said, ''Crime in the Borough of Ealing has seen a consistent fall over the last five years. 2009 presented us with some challenges and we witnessed a very slight increase in reported crime compared with 2008.
However, we are not complacent and already, only four weeks into the New Year we have seen a slight downward trend in overall reported crime and it is our aim to provide the best possible service to all victims of crime.
2010 presents new opportunities to improve the safety and confidence of our local community and I am looking forward to working closely with our partners to make Ealing the safest Borough in London.''
