Four people had to be taken to hospital this Wednesday (31 July) after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Northolt.

The Fire Brigade received the first of 24 calls to Newmarket Avenue at 1.37pm and dispatched ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters. Crews from Northolt, Ruislip, Wembley and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

A five roomed flat and half of the roof were alight.

They deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder to help fight the fire from above.

Paramedics and police officers assisted with the evacuation of casualties from the building and some people were treated at the scene in addition to those taken to hospital for what is believed to have been smoke inhalation.

The fire was under control by 3.18pm and the cause is now under investigation.
