The ODEON cinema chain has now officially confirmed that it is to take over the former Vue site on Western Avenue (A40) in Park Royal.

The announcement was widely anticipated, as the company had already added some signage at the site, but the last few details of the new lease have only recently been completed.

It is now expected that the new multiplex cinema will open this summer and it will be in the Luxe-format with 800 recliner seats across nine screens. Cutting edge audio and visuals are also promised as well as three times the average cinema legroom although that is likely to mean higher ticket prices than in a regular ODEON. It is the chain’s first new venue to open this year.

ODEON says that cinema attendance has already risen to 71% of pre-pandemic levels and this recovery has prompted it to proceed with the project.

There will be an option to watch films on one of ODEON’s immersive iSense screens which it says offers the brightest picture and clearest sound through 4K projection and Dolby® Atmos™ sound.

The Park Royal venue will carry ODEON Luxe’s premium food and drink offering; from a selection of wines, beers and cocktails available at Oscar’s Bar, named after ODEON founder Oscar Deutsch and paying homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood, through to the digitally-enabled ‘Order & Collect’ experience.

Acton also marks ODEON’s return to the home neighbourhood of one of its founder Oscar Deutch’s original cinemas for the first time in over 45 years. The new Acton cinema aims to honour the legacy of the original location, which first opened in 1937, reflecting both ODEON’s respect for its history and the transformation of the business since that time.

The hope is the cinema will be ready for many of the summer’s blockbuster releases including the long-awaited Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and, at the end of the year, AVATAR 2.

Carol Welch, Managing Director ODEON UK & Ireland, said, “We are delighted to announce the opening of ODEON Luxe Acton this summer – our newest site that provides the ultimate cinema experience, in terms of comfort, audio, visual and premium food and drinks.

"We have been thrilled with our guests’ response since reopening, and the hard work of our colleagues to make it all possible. We were hugely encouraged by the successful reopening of Luxe West End last year, highlighting a strong desire to come back to the cinema and enjoy films in the way they were intended to be seen – on the big screen. We are excited to be opening the doors at Acton soon where we will continue to entertain our guests with a number of fantastic films coming out later in the year.”
