Ealing Men's Barbershop Choir Get Piratical

Check out Capital Chorus' lockdown release of Drunken Sailor

Capital Chorus, the Ealing-based men’s barbershop choir have not been idle during lockdown.

To make the most of staying at home they have made a video of ‘Drunken Sailor’ with nautical and piratical costumes enhancing the a capella performance.

Although the group can’t meet together to sing they are still working on songs and have made more than 20 separate recordings directed by Greg Nixon. Greg also sings with their leads section, and though he's recently become a dad and is also juggling other commitments, he still found time to make the video.

Capital Chorus, formed in 1983, comprises around 30 members drawn mostly from Ealing and surrounding areas. The age range spans from 20s to 70s, and members come from a variety of professional, social and ethnic backgrounds.

Their philosophy is to sing well, provide entertainment of the highest quality…. and have lots of fun doing it. They also believe in supporting local good causes.

Over the last three decades, the Chorus has become a familiar sight at theatres, clubs, corporate events and fund raisers throughout London, with their wide repertoire of songs from the twenties to the eighties and beyond proving popular with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Capital Chorus has won four national awards at the BABS Convention (the annual British championship for Barbershop Singing). In 2009 and in 2011 the club won the prize for the “Most Improved Chorus”; in 2007 they received the accolade of “Best Small Chorus".

From time to time, Capital Chorus runs a "Learn to Sing in Harmony" course, where for a very small fee (to cover costs) any men can come along once a week for 5 or 6 weeks and be taught to sing in 4 part harmony a capella, with a short concert at the end for family and friends.
