Ealing Civic Society Commendations
The Bluebell Centre built by volunteers in Perivale is Highly Commended

New noteworthy buildings in Ealing have been recognised at an Ealing Civic Society awards ceremony.
Althought there was no overall winner this year a variety of different projects received commendations.
The awards have been running Since 1989 and this year the ceremony at
Ealing Town Hall was hosted by Guardian journalist Tim Dowling.
A Highly commended award was presented to
The Bluebell Centre, Perivale Wood ( pictured above)- a low carbon building designed and
constructed by volunteers from the Selborne Society using straw bales and reclaimed
materials wherever possible. It is used mainly to introduce local school students to
the Perivale Wood nature reserve.
Ealing Civic Society Chairman, Dr Robert Gurd, said that the aim of the Award was to embrace all kinds of building and landscape design. He was impressed by the level of entries. He said: “It's a wide variety of entries, all to a very high standard - ranging from an environmental centre made of straw bales to new schools, and to several contemporary domestic extensions.''

Commendations were given to
St Benedict’s School, Ealing New Ark building – a new junior school as well as the newly built St Johns Primary School, West Ealing.

Whilst 1 Grange Park, Ealing a domestic household extension was recognised too.

Other shortlisted entries this year were: St Bernard’s Gate, Hanwell (new housing);
24 Princes Gardens, W5 (‘Gogglebox’ – domestic extension); Haven Green Dental
Clinic, Mount Park Road, W5 (new clinic); and the Ealing street signs project
(refurbishment and restoration of some street signs in Ealing Borough).
