The long delayed opening of Ealing’s new Crossrail stations looks set to take place soon.

Network Rail says it is in the final stages of the project and just about ready to handover the stations to the train operator and station manager, MTR Elizabeth line. They expect to be welcoming passengers ‘in the next couple of months.’

At Ealing Broadway installation of the lifts has progressed, with the lift that will serve platform 4 nearing completion. Work has continued to install the lifts for platforms 1, 2/3 as well as the ticket gates and the flooring for the ticket office.

Electrical and mechanical work was carried out over the festive season and continues along with work to reinstate the platforms.

So far this year it has completed the installation of the external doors and glazing at West Ealing and is close to completing the installation of the new concourse ceiling. Finishing work on platform 4 is completed and fire doors have been installed. The ticket machines and gate line have
now been installed and the final testing and commissioning of these will be completed in January.

Work continuing over the festive period has allowed the projects to progress despite the national lockdown.

Throughout December the new footbridge at Southall was glazed, sealed and painted and work continued with site drainage. Work started on the block and brick work for the ground floor internal walls within the new station building and cladding continued for the exterior. Lift motor rooms, along with the cable trays for new electrics and telecoms equipment was installed.

Network Rail says that work is furthest advanced at Acton Main Line station which is expected to be the first on the western section of the line to be handed over.
