A new bursary scheme has been unveiled by Ealing Film Festival to encourage young filmmakers of the future.

Applications are now open for 18-25 year olds who could win a free place on a month long course at the prestigious Ealing based MetFilm school. The training would normally cost 2,400 but will be available at no charge due to the support of the local McGrath Charitable Trust and MetFilm School.

Kevin McGrath from the trust said: “This bursary will give the recipient a significant step forward in the development of their career in the film industry. “We are delighted to provide support to young people with talent and drive to allow them to progress in their chosen vocation.”

Ealing Film Festival was launched in 2020 and due to the pandemic had to be held online, but last year the Festival took place in real life.

Now in its third year, it has attracted more than five hundred entries from emerging filmmakers throughout the world.

When it first launched Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, had promised a special event at the House of Commons but Covid rules and lockdowns meant that couldn't happen.
This week however, the MP was able to host a special screening of some of the winning films from the two previous festivals. Dozens of filmmakers turned up including one winner who had flown all the way from LA.
The MP said she was pleased to be involved, ''proud to live in such a creative community'' and welcomed the new bursary, thanking all involved.

Peter Gould, one of the festival directors, said, “We started Ealing Film Festival because we wanted to shine a spotlight on new talent. There are some great new filmmakers out there, just waiting to be discovered. This bursary will help to find them and allow them to realise their potential.

''Applicants should send - in no more no more than 500 words - the reason why they are applying for this bursary and written applications can also be supported with a one-minute video.''

Applications close on 31 Octoberand the bursary winner will be announced at the Ealing Film Festival December and should be sent to info@ealingfilmfestival.com. The winner's completed film will then be screened at the 2023 festival.
