Ealing resident Russ Lidstone was among the recipients awarded honorary degrees at the University of West London’s (UWL) recent winter graduation ceremony.

He has worked in marketing communications for 30 years and is currently President of Inizio Engage XD and Chief Marketing Officer of Inizio Engage. Russ was made an honorary doctorate of letters in recognition of his role as an advisor to the London School of Film, Media and Design’s (LSFMD) advertising and PR courses.

“It is a moment of personal pride to have this honour conferred on me by a university for which I have a lot of respect - given its well-deserved positioning as ‘the career university’,” Russ said. “A University in which I have lot of pride - given my association with LSFMD.”

UWL awards honorary degrees for significant contributions to a specific field or to society in general. Russ was one of six people awarded an honorary degree at the ceremonies held at Twickenham Stadium where thousands of students graduated in a range of subjects and disciplines.

Other recipients of honorary degrees were:
• President of the Auguste Escoffier Foundation Michel Escoffier, great-grandson of the famous culinary icon, in recognition of his support for culinary excellence and creating links between students in the UK and France.
• Chair of the ManKind Initiative, Mark Brooks OBE, an expert in the fields of men’s health, inclusion, wellbeing, domestic abuse and suicide, for his work supporting male victims of domestic abuse.
• Expert in the field of transport logistics and UWL alumnus, Carl Lomas, who has dedicated his career to improving standards in the logistics and courier industries.
• Orchestrator, arranger, conductor and film, composer Matt Dunkley. He has worked on over 200 films with some of the most exciting names in moving image composition.
• Chief Nurse at Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust, Maria O’Brien, for her contribution to the nursing profession.

Professor Peter John CBE, Vice-Chancellor of UWL, commended those graduating on their hard work, energy and personal sacrifice in achieving their goals. He also recognised how crucial the support of loved ones had been in the success of those graduating.

He said, “It is you that make the University what it is, you are the most important people here today and without you, we’d be nothing.”
