The annual London North-West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) Staff Excellence Awards were held recently at Wembley Stadium.

There was a special surprise guest at the event with the appearance of actress and TV presenter Amanda Holden. She had been invited along by trust chief executive Pippa Nightingale. Pippa had assisted in the birth of one of Amanda’s children when she worked as a midwife.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge praised the work of NHS workers and how much they had helped her own family.

More than 600 staff attended the ceremony which attracted more than 900 nominations across the trust which includes Central Middlesex, Ealing, St Mark's and Northwick Park hospitals. This included nominations from patients and members of the public.

Two highlights included Central Middlesex Hospital which was given a special award for its response to an incident earlier this year when an assailant attacked and injured several people in the hospital grounds.

Beryl Carr saw the Volunteer of the Year category renamed in her honour as the NHS’s longest serving volunteer at the age of 101. The inaugural Volunteer of the Year Beryl Carr Award was won by the Youth Buddy initiative.

It was a welcome opportunity for staff to celebrate and look back over the achievements of the past year and recognise the individuals and teams that went above and beyond.
