A Greenford Primary School is to be rebuilt after Ealing Council secured funds for its redevelopment.

The project to redesign Stanhope Primary School will be implemented in a way which allows the pupils to stay on site and switch to the new facilities when they are complete.

The school is built on a large site, which will enable the building work to take place away from the current school buildings, which should mitigate the impact on existing education while allowing for enough outside play space, away from the building works. The children will be able to move to the new school on completion of the project, at which point the current school will be demolished.

The plans and discussions will take place, with the governing board, head and education team at the council as soon as a contractor has been appointed. This will include a full feasibility report.

Cabinet member for a fairer start, Councillor Kamaljit Kaur Nagpal, said, “I am very pleased that our bid has secured funding for the new design and rebuild of Stanhope Primary School in Greenford, and delighted that this will continue to provide access to good and sustainable schools in the community and invest in education and the future of our young people.

“This is another success story for schools in our borough, we cannot wait to begin conversations on the design of the new school. The re-design will be an asset to the community, as well as enhance and assist pupils in achieving their greatest potential with access to modern state-of-the art facilities.

“Education is one of our top priorities, and the news comes following the successful bid for Northolt High School, where design plans are underway, and we look forward to completion in September 2025.”

Funding has already been granted by the Department for Education to rebuild Northolt High School, and discussions on the full feasibility are underway. The feasibility report will be ready towards the end of January 2023, and the school will be able to share the drawings of the project.

With the procurement of a design and build contractor scheduled for next year, the construction should be underway for 2024, with this type of programme, it can take a minimum of 18 months for completion. The council is expecting Northolt High School to be completed for September 2025.
