Brigantia Explorers continue to show their impact in Hanwell with 57 young people joining together in Elthorne Park recently.

The volunteers also used the evening to celebrate many of the young people on their inspiring achievements. Highlights included Duke of Edinburgh awards through Scouts, Nights Away & Hikes Away Awards and Joining In Awards.

The activities undertaken by these young people is enabled by their leaders, who are all volunteers. The Explorers praised their enthusiasm and dedication with one young person saying they “give me the confidence to do stuff that may be outside of my comfort zone.”

“ We have a really good community” said another Scout, reflecting on the friends they have made by being a part of Explorers. During their last evening of the summer, the Explorers launched rockets combining teamwork, creativity and mathematics, an example of how joining the Scouts equips you with a variety of Skills for Life. With one Explorer stating that they “wouldn’t be able to do any of this, if {they} didn’t come to Explorers.”

85% of young people in Scouts take part in activities they have never tried before and the organisation offers over 200 different activities. From thrills and wild adventure, to creative activities and historic learning, there should be something to suit everyone. One Explorer appreciated how Scouts has made her “more open to stuff. You turn up and get involved.”

Chief Scout Bear Grylls says, “Now more than ever, our young people need the confidence and encouragement that Scouting gives. Young people are amazing. They just need the opportunities and a friendly, safe and supportive place to discover their talents. That’s where we come in.”

Aged 14 to 18 and ready to join. Contact d.desouza@brigantiaesu.org.uk to find out how you can get involved.
