A Meet the Writer event is taking place in Ealing Central Library this Thursday (7 July) with spy writers Alex Gerlis and Charles Cumming.

The free event, which begins at 6pm, has been organised by Ealing Libraries and will be chaired by Torin Douglas.

You can book seats at the Library, or on 020 8825 6502, or online via Eventbrite.

Torin will be interviewing the two writers about their books and the inspirations behind them

Alex Gerlis was a BBC journalist for nearly thirty years and is the author of nine Second World war espionage thrillers. His first four novels are in the Spy Masters series, including the best-selling The Best of Our Spies which is currently being developed as a television series. His latest series is the Wolf Pack novels - Agent in Peril, the second in the series, will be published on 7 July.

Charles Cumming was born in Scotland and graduated from the University of Edinburgh with First Class Honours in English Literature. In 1995, he was approached by the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) and used his experiences as the basis for his debut novel. His novels have been translated into thirteen languages. Judas 62 is his eleventh novel, the second in his new series featuring Lachlan Kite. He is winner of the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger and Bloody Scotland Crime Book of the Year.

Torin Douglas is the director of the Chiswick Book Festival. He was the BBC’s media correspondent for 24 years and now organises, chairs and promotes arts and community events in Chiswick. The Chiswick Book Festival has strong links in Ealing and several Ealing authors will be speaking at the Festival events in Chiswick on 10 & 11 September, and once again there will be two events in Ealing itself - one at the University of West London on Tuesday 13 September and one at the ActOne cinema on Wednesday 14 September. The full programme will be announced later this month.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
