First Ever Performance of The Grief Opera in Ealing This Weekend

Composer prompted to write it following his son's suicide

A new opera which aims to promote mental wellness is to receive its first performance in Ealing this weekend.

Composer Nigel Linacre lost his son George to suicide in 2021. He was also a musician and was the bass player for Eschar.

Grief Opera aims to chart Nigel’s journey through shock and pain to a reconciliation with what happened.

He has collaborated with Vladimir Miller, a jazz composer and band leader, who used George’s bass beats as a starting point for the Grief Opera’s soundscape.

“The Grief Opera shows the power of grief and our ability to transcend it, and experience deep love. It might even help us lift people who’re struggling”, says Nigel, “I’d love the Grief Opera to help us get through the toughest times, especially when we can’t see a way through.”

International Opera Singer Neil Latchman will perform in the Grief Opera at St Mary’s Church in Ealing, 7:30 pm on Saturday 15 July. He will be joined by Nigel Linacre, Vladimir Miller and Keri Farish, plus piano, strings and clarinet known collectively as The Grief Ensemble.

Nigel Linacre BEM is a business coach who founded and chairs a water charity .
