The Questors Theatre is to stage a comedy by Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh who also wrote In Bruges and Three Billboards in Ebbing Missouri.

The darkly satirical Hangmen is set in a Lancashire pub in the 1960s and is undercut with the idiosyncratic humour that is McDonagh’s trademark.

The local hangman Harry is hanging up his noose for good with the abolition of capital punishment and gains an element of celebrity as a result. However a menacing young Londoner arrives at the bar with bringing the prospect that Harry may have to face the consequences of his deeds.

Hangmen was ranked by The Times as one of the Top 25 Best Plays of 21st Century.

It is being performed from the 3-11 June in the Judi Dench Playhouse and tickets can be booked online.

Summer Scripts is an opportunity for those aged 11-16 to develop scriptwriting skills and help others to bring their ideas to the stage in a creative workshop led by QYT tutor, poet and playwright, Laura Rae. Participants will write and direct their own pieces as well as acting in scripts created by others in a script in hand sharing to an invited audience on the last day of the project in the Questors Studio. It takes place on Monday 30 May - Wednesday 1 June from 10am - 4pm and costs £90 (£60 concession).

Booking and paying via the website will confirm your place. You will then be contacted by email to provide student details and permissions.

To pay by phone, call the Box Office on 020 8567 5184.

Two visiting companies will be coming to The Questors over the Summer to stage musicals. Brit Youth Theatre will be performing Annie Junior from 16 - 25 June in the Studio. Based on a comic strip, Annie is a musical that tells the story of a little orphan who ends up in the lap of luxury with Depression-era billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Book tickets.

Then from 27 -31 July the Encore Theatre Company will be in the Judi Dench Playhouse performing Shrek the Musical. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig, it is a Tony award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring music by Jeanine Tesori with lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Book tickets.

In July, The Questors will host its inaugural Festival of New Theatre – featuring creative talent for audiences, writers and theatre-makers, and the local community.

Designed by Evelina Plonyte

The Festival will feature three brand new full-length plays, plus a sprinkling of short plays, chosen from hundreds of script submissions. The Questors has curated a programme of what it considers to be the most exciting new works, from a diverse pool of writers across UK & Ireland.

As well as championing new writers, this festival includes work from new directors, partially-devised work, plus collaborative projects with the Questors Young People Theatre and improvisation from the Questors House team, The Slack Captains.

There will be panels and workshops where you can find out more about the ideas and processes behind the plays, contribute to the development of new plays and pick up some tips for your own writing.

The festival takes place from 18 - 23 July and tickets can be booked online.
