Theatre needs more donations to release matched funding pledge
Rupa Huq at the Questors Theatre
The campaign by the Questors Theatre to raise funds for a leaking roof has been given the backing of Rupa Huq.
The MP for Ealing Central and Acton has said the venue has played a significant role for her family over the years and she is calling on her constituents to join her in making a donation to the crowdfunding appeal to get funds needed to repair the Judi Dench Playhouse.
This part of the theatre built in 1964 has come to the end of its useful life and, despite regular patching, water is still leaking into the theatre after rainfall. The renovation is critical to the continued safety and well-being of cast, crew, members, audiences, and the ongoing production of shows and is estimated to cost £100,000.
Rupa Huq said, “Questors has been important to the Huqs for decades - my sister Konnie gained the confidence to present with the BBC from doing QYT, their youth programme, and a huge highlight of my MP career was being on the main stage performing alongside the late Jeremy Hardy and local Shappi Khorsandi at a Stand up for Labour event where neighbouring MPs Ruth Cadbury and John McDonnell also appeared.
“When I met Judi Dench herself at the House of Commons she beamed with pride when I told her where I was MP and mentioned it. I wholeheartedly support this campaign, have donated and urge others to.”
The campaign has already received the backing of Cllr Gary Malcolm, the leader of the Liberal Democrats on Ealing Council.
The appeal has recently received an additional donation of £10,000 via cheque and this could be doubled if an equivalent amount in the fundraiser. With less than two weeks left in the campaign, the amount raised is still well short of the target and Questors is asking supporters to share details of the appeal as widely as possible.
Bucket collecting water leaks in the main playhouse
Questors Chair, Doug King said, “The Questors provides an extraordinary range of opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in creative activity, and to see the fruits of their work on stage in our acclaimed Playhouse. Replacing the leaking roof this year is essential for the future of the Playhouse. Your help via the Crowdfunder will speed along meeting the costs of the roof replacement – and therefore also bring forward the planned follow on steps for refurbishing the interior of the Playhouse, including the replacement of the seating and improvements to access.”
