In reply to Jim Lawes:The Waggon and Horses, a Fuller's pub, stood for many years at 26 Kew Bridge Road. There is a picture on this link: http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/23/2359/Waggon_and_Horses/BrentfordHowever, now that the days of wagons and horses are over, and gastro pubs are all the rage, the new pub will probably have a more contemporary name. I would like to propose the Bazalgette in honour of Sir Joseph Bazalgette, the chief engineer of London's Metropolitan Board of Works, who was responsible for the creation of a sewer network for London which, together with the railways, enabled London to support the greatest population of any city on earth in the late nineteenth-century. Sir Joseph's work is commemorated in the London Museum of Water and Steam across the road. And if that does not appeal, the Bazalgette could be a reference to Sir Joseph Bazalgette's great-great- grandson, Sir Peter Bazalgette, the television producer responsible for such popular programmes as Big Brother, Changing Rooms, Ground Force and Ready, Steady Cook. Sir Peter is currently Chair of Arts Council England.
