Kew Midsummer Fete - 21st June - 11:00-18:00
Here’s hoping for a Dream of a day – this year’s Kew Midsummer Fete actually falls on Midsummer Day, Saturday 21st June, in the lovely setting of Kew Green. Now in its fifth fantastic year, it’s become Kew’s favourite family event, with lots for the children – vintage funfair rides, a petting farm, a bungee run and Beat the Goalie – and for the grown-ups great not-from-the-high-street shopping, with over 100 stalls and a craft marquee. And for everyone there’ll be local bands and entertainment throughout the day and delicious food and drink. This year’s celebrity judge for the ever-popular dog show will be Katherine Dow Blyton, who plays Harriet Finch, the new vicar, in Emmerdale. Katherine lives locally with her partner and gorgeous Border Terrier, Dexter. The dog show has become the place for spotting famous faces – Lesley Sharp (Scott & Bailey), Anthony Calf (New Tricks) and Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey) have all entered their dogs in previous years. The tug-of-war has become a new highlight, with clubs, pubs, streets and schools entering teams of eight. All the fete profits are donated to local good causes – over £40,000 has been given to charity so far and it’s hoped that this year will take that to over £50k.Kew Midsummer Fete, Kew Green, Saturday 21st June, 11am to 6pm, free entry. See www.kewfete.org for all details.
