I think it is strange that in a country where the established church is struggling to keep members and we have so many different beliefs and so many cultures that we have not disestablished the Church of England. I do not believe that politics and religion mix and I think they should be separated by law, no more Bishops in the House of Lords and definitely no more 'faith' schools supported by the state. However, having said that, there is no doubt that for people with a strong faith, religion can be a great support and comfort in trying circumstances, and I suppose there is still a moral leadership in all religion. It does sicken me that so many of the disputes and wars that are going on are because of one set of nutcases trying to ram their own particular brand of 'religion' down another bunch of crackpots' throats. We've been there and done that and really where did it get us? I have friends of many faiths and I actually don't give a stuff, it has never been a bone of contention because at the end of it all, people are just people regardless. Strangely enough I do think that I have some faith, whether that is because of age or upbringing I have no idea, my sons on the other hand think it's all a load of cr*p.
