Residents’ fury at Heathrow compensation consultation

It's all a con. I wrote to them for clarification on the new proposals as they are misleading the public. Here's the reply. "Dear Steve,I do understand your frustration. The noise mitigation schemes we have in place are to assist with noise disturbances as a result of Heathrow’s current operations. Should runway three go ahead this will change and the schemes will be reviewed accordingly. I will forward on your details to the noise complaint department to log. In addition, if you would like to write to them regarding the noise please email them on noise_complaints@heathrow.com . What is needed is a completely impartial survey/consultation independent of the dreadfully loaded Heathrow sponsored one which beggars belief.It is no good being done by the council either as that will be brushed aside as equally biased.I have to say that I am now far more against than I was, as a consequence of these vile pieces of blatant gerrymandered bits of propaganda.With recent events showing just how devastating a large airliner coming down can be, and how easy it is to bring one down with the cover of a labyrinthian urban area, one wonders how one of the leading cities on this earth still has an airport with approaches over the metropolis and it's populus.Boris Island is simply sensible. And I thought that making Heathrow a new town bonkers, but the more one thinks about it and the alternatives of Hong Kong/Mumbai overcrowding with no open spaces or quality of life, It seems less of a bonkers idea and more a pragmatic vision.

Yes indeed - but what infuriates me is the devious manner which Heathrow Airports Ltd is trying to secure backing for the expansion. The Consultation on 'compensation' is worded and framed in such a way as to encourage people to support the 3rd runway by dangling the carrot of compensation to affected residents.  Unfortunately there are those who don't give a monkeys about the environment or the future of their children and as soon as they see that there may be 'compo' they will be willing to support anything to get an extra buck in their pockets! They are being led to believe that the 3rd runway will go ahead anyway so they may as well cash in!!"Furious residents have complained to campaign group HACAN about Heathrow Airport’s most recent consultation.  Last week Heathrow released a three month consultation seeking people’s views on who should qualify for compensation if a third runway goes ahead.  But residents have told HACAN that they feel they are being steamrollered into accepting the fact that a third runway is inevitable at a time when the Government has made no decision on the future of Heathrow."

I agree - the expansion of Heathrow would be a nightmare. After the terrible tragedy of Malaysian airlines being brought down by surface to air missile - I look differently now at the planes landing every few minutes over large swathes of highly populated areas.  If one were building a new airport today - can you imagine if the developers suggested the landing and takeoff routes fly over 1 million homes in the capital city.  A long term vision is needed - not a short term highly controversial sticking plaster of a solution.

Yes, future generations of Londoners should not have to put up with the noise, pollution and congestion that Heathrow causes daily - not to mention the danger of large numbers of aircraft flying over one of the most densely populated cities in the world. A long term vision is needed so that we leave a legacy for new generations that isn't steeped in the short term self  commercial interests of those who do business in and around Heathrow.
