The Kings and Queens ..who have visited the Borough..

Well, we remember that the Queen came to Hounslow recently...has she been to Brentford of Chiswick.King George 6th (whilst still a Prince) accompanied his father George 5th to open the "new" Civil Service Sports Ground in Chiswick in the mid 1920's.King Edward 7th came to Brentford and Chiswick to open the "new" Kew Bridge in the early 1900's.Can't recall if Queen Victoria came to Brentford...did she?And Neil is telling us on the 1777 thread that William 4th was in Brentford High Street in the 1820's.Any more info?

Charles 1st children were held prisoner at Syon, he came to see them, from time to time, when he was a prisoner at Hampton Ct.The night before the march on London the Parliamentary commanders, including Cromwell, meet at Syon with the Earl of Northumberland.Cromwell as Lord Protector was known to have visted the Earl at Syon.

With their Palaces along the River Thames...the smoothest way of travelling in those days...the Royalty of years gone by will have passed by the riverbanks of Brentford...on their way Kew Palace, Syon House, Richmond Palace, (Marble Hill House) (Ham House) a Kingston Palace??and then to Hampton Court.One can just imagine the impressive State barges being rowed and sailed along.

Charles 1 was said to have been at Boston Manor House duringthe Battle of Brentford in 1642.He would have rode through the town on his way to Turnham Green. Prince Rupert fought at Brentford.Charles also passed through Brentford on his way to London for his trial and execution.

My Wife worked at the West Mid Hospital for some 5 years and often mentioned the Doctors and Nurses  who lived on site swore they had seen a ghostly figure floating about the grounds and inerestingly refered to the apparition as the grey lady, I have heard from a Family source who was employed at the London Apprentice that the same apparition appeared in the Cellar of that establisment

Lady Jane Grey, who was Queen for nine days before getting her head chopped off (or some other nasty demise), started her journey up the Thames from Syon House to go and get her crown.Elizabeth I spent a lot of time in Hanworth/Heston at a hunting lodge there as a young girl - she was aparently the victim of her step-mother's new husband's amorous advances in the gardens.

In the 18th century, George II used to enjoy driving over the Brentford Bridge and through the High Street, because it reminded him of his native Hanover. I wonder what he would think of it now? I wonder if Prince Charles would follow his ancestor’s love of Brentford and architecture and get involved in the Brentford redevelopment and maybe get things moving?
