Local MP comments about GAZA
An open letter to Mary MacLeod.Dear Ms MacLeod,Your comments about the conflict in Gaza have only my qualified support, because you omit one extremely glaring fact. In defense of it's citizens, the Israel government has instructed it's military to target those locations from where rockets are being launched. Tragically, Hamas has chosen either to launch from locations where innocent citizens are already residing or worse, to place innocent men, women and children in those same locations, in either case, with the intent to cynically seek sympathy, claiming that the Israel government doesn't care about the resulting tragedy of innocent lives being lost. They do care but are doing no less than you would do if your neighbor was shooting at you and your family and to protect your loved one's, your only option was to fire back. Beginning with the wrong headed partition of Palestine by the then English and French governments, finding a solution presently that allows Israel to live in peace alongside a Palestinian homeland is so complex a process. Clearly Israel must stop building settlements on Palestinian land; that would be a good start. What would also be a good start would be for Hamas and it's supporters denouncing any adherence to the destruction of Israel and death to all Jews. Your comment about the crises in Gaza is one sided. I call upon you to acknowledge that Israel is not at fault when it does what it has to do too protect it's people, especially when it has to do so against an enemy so cynical and evil.
