Resurfacing

Had a flyer announcing that Brook road Sth is to be resurfaced.It appears that just Breamar road and Brook road are to be treated.Yet Lateward road and Albany road have by a country mile the worst condition roads in the vicinity.Then I find that Braemar road was completely resurfaced less than 10 years ago due to multiple potholes. Brook road seems fine and good for cyclists.Ealing road is lethal right now. The deep ruts in the road especially near the Pub on the corner of Braemar Road are lethal at night and in rain to cyclists.Why is it that just bits of a road get resurfaced and the rest left.?It all seems so hopeless and amateur in the way things are organised.Trying to get in touch with the contacts listed on the flyer is near impossible. No-one responds.Why are our local councillors not on this? They are local so must know how bad Albany Road is in particular

Brentford is not along - it's happening all over the borough.  Nobody seems to actually go out and personally have a look.  In Grove Park, Chiswick we have only short sections of road resurfaced with the rest left with potholes.It's madness.The same thing happened with some planned double yellow lines positioned for yards and yards and when asked why, the answer was, to enable the bus to get past the bus coming the other way - they'd not realised because no one had been to look, that the bus was on a circular route, it only went one way down that particular road so would never met one coming the other way!

Some years ago we asked the then head of highways to attend a local area forum and explain the vagaries of re-surfacing timetabling. The explanation went on and on and on, it was so convoluted and full of 'formulas' that the people who'd managed to stay awake during this presentation were by then thoroughly befuddled. We too thought the best way to decide what needed doing was to actually go and bloody look for yourself. But hey! What do any of us know?

Well done Tim, Wood Lane is the worst, the Teesdales have just been done,Spring Grove Road  done, Jersey Road soon, and as you say 2017 for Wood Lane, where is the planning in that?

Ealing Road has been closed three times this year. The cost in time lost and wasted time to residents and businesses along with other local closures and diversions is adding up. not to mention the inconvenience.It's hard to accept that given all the communication means and technology that it still remains impossible for joined up  and pragmatic thinking to exist.It is glaringly obvious that to resurface the entire road in one go whilst a closure is in place makes practical sense. It also means the closed section can be resurfaced correctly at the end.It means no increase in delays, inconvenience and upheaval.But it also means a huge saving in costs.  Plant only needs to be positioned once. Materials procured  just once to one location.Traffic orders only need to be made once.Labour and facilities only needs to be located onceAnd the end result is a complete road that has an acceptable surface throughout.The money wasted doing this in such a haphazard way, with poor roads not being prioritised and roads recently resurfaced being resurfaced agains just smacks of extreme incompetence.And the poor standard and high costs of British road surfaces is something that really needs to be reviewed nationally. It's fallen way behind the standards found across most of Europe.

"The worst surface I know is the section of Wood Lane north of Borough Road in Isleworth and it is down for 2017 !"It seems to me that before authorising this - what is it? £140 million spend ? - nobody got off their bottoms to actually get out and check which roads should be given priority.

Well we had a crew pitch up this morning in my road, and when I looked they'd tarmacked a small patch about 3 feet square right next to an old tree grid, (with no tree) that is sticking up by miles and apparently is O.K. to be left? Go figure..........

The plan is at http://www.hounslowhighways.org/44-my-works.htmlwhich says that the southern third of Ealing Road was done last year, the northern third this year and the middle stretch (Braemar to New Road) is scheduled for 2016.I'd agree that the schedule seems distinctly odd. The worst surface I know is the section of Wood Lane north of Borough Road in Isleworth and it is down for 2017 !

"It all seems so hopeless and amateur in the way things are organised."It is indeed. Its all part of the 5 year plan but the way it is being organised is beyond comprehension. In some areas only half a road has been resurfaced, the remainder due in 2017. I saw one road being resurfaced when it had nothing wrong with it and another less than 200 metres away which has had potholes filled every year for the last 3 years (and the filling only lasts about 3 months) but the full resurfacing is only scheduled for 2017. You couldn't make it up!
