Tidy town bulky waste pick up from LBH

Checked out the arrangements for bulky waste collection on Hounslow's web site, this morning.  Thrilled to bits that the Council has listened to worries about the old service being offered as I found from April all Households are eligible for two free pick ups of up to 5 items .. Amazing!  Well done for adjusting to a demand....I rang to book a collection on behalf of a neighbour who is disabled and find adjusting to demand has not recognised the popularity of such a scheme .... the earliest pick up is Tuesday 21st October!  :(

Why not investigate what the West London Waste Authority can offer you in terms of collection?You might even get a free collection.http://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/take-action/work-with-us/

My sons have started on sorting out our loft! What treasures have been unearthed, E-Bay has been busy I can tell you, anything that is sellable goes there, the rest is either charity shopped or if it's really had it, off to the tip. We have found a load of 78rpm very old records, two hardly worn fur coats, a vintage toaster, a record player and loads more.

You are right Philippa about recycling.  There is some natural recycling as if anything looks any good it will be taken from the driveway within a few days.  The large electrical chair is beyond repair but may interest the scrap people who circle so it may disappear anyway (metal frame).  The worry there is where these people dispose of the rest of the chair after they have removed the frame and electrical wiring.  Earlier in the year we put out a bed frame and mattress and that was taken into a multi occupancy near by.....

I am inclined to agree with you Vanessa.  The collection has been booked on behalf of a neighbour and has to be left on the driveway in the way of the assortment of callers, taxis delivery vehicles.  Luckily there is room but it is a nuisance that it will have to stay there for so long.

We think nothing of buying more stuff nowadays because we can buy on credit.  Unfortunately we don't seem to think before we buy of how we are going to dispose of whatever we are replacing.I don't think enough companies are collecting when they deliver as this would seem to be a very sensible idea and when they do offer this option it is in the small print instead of being mentioned as an important part of the purchase.Friends in another borough in a house divided into flats share their collection so that they make the most of it.If you look at the West London Waste website there are quite a few charities listed who will collect furniture.  Some charities now take electrical goods so it is worthwhile contacting them if what you have is in working order.  Electrical goods have to be tested before they are sold.More effort should be made in encouraging and helping people to take their goods directly to the charities.  The William Wilberforce Trust also do some work in refurbishing furniture.

I don't understand why they haven't used the same terms as before. You paid £15 for as much as you could load in 15 minutes then so much per 5 minutes used after that. Pensioners didn't have to pay, the service was well used then, and it seems to me that in a time of financial restraints making it free to all is daft and has contributed to the backing up of accessing the service at all. Similarly you used to have to pay 50p to reserve a book at the library - that is now free, why? Given the price of books 50p is nothing and if it helps to keep libraries stocked and open then where's the problem?

Yes, unfortunately that is pretty much the usual timescale I'm afraid, we used the service afew months back and if I recall correctly the first available date for collection was about 4 weeks after I booked the collection, and that was quite soon after the service had been reintroduced, so I guess as word spreads the delay increases :-(
