Trice-Folberth

Yes it's that time again, when all past employees and friends of Trico's (part of the Golden mile ) meet up for the reunion just before Xmas. This will be held at The Inverness Lodge Boston Manor Road. From 2000hs on Dec 12th 2014. All are welcome

Ruddy vacuum wipers as fitted on the Ford PopWent like the clappers when stationery and, as the vacuum dropped when you approached the dizzying heights of 40mph on the A4 would slow to a crawl. :-)

(A 1920s product apparently).Thanks David. Yes feeling much better and more mobile than I was. A few hurdles to jump yet though!.... and are many worse off than me. Bravo to CX hospital.Nothing like those magic moments when meeting colleagues of the past.

Brentford was in the news even nearly 40 years ago!"1976 Trico-Folberth Equal Pay Strike. Women at a windscreen wipers factory in Brentford Middlesex organised by the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers were on strike for 21 weeks before winning their demand to be paid the same basic rate as male workers"So those employers on the Great West Road weren't all angels it seems. Did you see the article in the B&C Local History magazine about how badly Firestone employees were treated in the 1930's? Perhaps it's a good thing that the iconic building is no longer there to act as a reminder!

Thanks JimI bumped into Alan Endersby a couple of years ago.We had some real characters working there including a 16mm projector technician who kept his SBS dagger above his workbench. No one argued with him (actually he was lovely guy). Every fortnight a taxi would arrive loaded with cheeses (from the 'wholesaler') which we could all buy at a fraction of shop prices. But memories of the 'summer peppermint' smell still linger.

The Forum Search Box facilities have been much expanded as you probably know.Thus by typing "Trico Folberth" into the Search Box you find something extra of interest.I particularly noticed Bernadette Paul's posting when she mentioned that she had worked for the late Sir James Goldsmith of Cavenham Foods. I recall that he bought his Daimler car from University Motors in Hanwell. That was of interest to me at any rate!

Not I, I didn't start there until 1973.The door by the left hand tree was the entrance the RAV Sports and Social Club.Many a great film shown there as the site was also home to the Rank Film Library.

Hope it's a cracking evening.I used to work next door at Rank Audio Visual (the old 'Macleans' building.Every summer the would place smelly wonderfully of peppermint oil which was still evaporating out of the floorboards twenty years after we moved in.
