Green Dragon Lane

Somebody just told me Green Dragon Lane has some roadworks due to start Monday 27th.I can seem to find any info online....has anyone seen the signs?...do we know if it will be usable or closed?

Brentford got Daleks, Ealing Broadway had to make do with Autons. (-:To be fair - it seems to be my day for that! - a couple of guys were on Green Dragon Road this morning laying tarmac, so it looks like the project's mostly finished. I'm not convinced it's in the right place to help parents & others cross the road, but maybe people will adapt.

The alleyway is still there - or part of it is. Before the gates went up at the south end of the railway bridge just a few years ago, you could still walk alongside the railway most of the way to Kew Bridge. At least, if you didn't mind fighting the brambles!I had assumed it was named after a pub, but now that I search, the only Green Dragon pub in town was over the canal, down by Brent Lea.

I got it wrong, sorry. The signs - both of them - actually say the work is due to start on Mon 27th October and finish on Fri 05th September!! Maybe they have Doctor Who on the team. It might explain why there's been no one at work there lately - they've all been abducted by aliens...

"What mad man can contemplate, quite from actually managing to drive above about 15 mph down Green Dragon Lane with all its chicanes, speed bumps and parked cars?"You'd be surprised! It never ceases to amaze me how many people treat a supermarket car park like a race track - bonkers!

About 17 years ago members from the St Georges club decided to clean up the Green Dragon Alley way. We removed rubbish from 200 yards and filled three skips then gave up. Must admit the lighting still worked.

A visit to the seemingly energetic Brentford Chamber of Commerce website suggests that the Green Dragon is alive and well (don't know how that narrow TW8 road got it's name though)as it seeks Brentford dwellers with business ideas.(These pictorial injections are to help stir the stagnant porridge of Brentford...otherwise we'd all fall asleep... which I did yesterday after a visit to the Chinese Buffet!)

Funny name is Green Dragon Lane. Did anyone ever find out why it was so called? Presume even back then there were no dragons of any colour in TW8 - perhaps it was named after a pub?

I remember that in the early 1950s much of Green Dragon Lane was just an alleyway by the railway... that we used to walk down with it's gas lamps on our way to Griffin Park. (Are you sure about the gas lighting Jim?).In the 1960s when there were grand plans to divert traffic away from Brentford High Street Green Dragon Lane was to be the relief road with the high rise flats facing the corridor.It seems the plans were abandoned by the Council....having already demolished some fine old buildings, mucked up the Ealing Road junction..and left all future generations with the ugly vistas that remain today.Funny name is Green Dragon Lane. Did anyone ever find out why it was so called?

Hounslow want to make the area near Green Dragon School a 20mph zone. Which will include Green Dragon lane. I did not think it was to start this soon.

There's notices up around the Clayponds Lane junction saying that the council is to install a "speed table" there, which I assume means raising the road level to pavement height, both to slow the traffic and to make it easier for pedestrians, especially those on their way to and from school. The work is scheduled (according to another sign) to start on the 27th and finish on Nov 5th. They signs say resident access will be maintained, but I don't recall them mentioning through traffic.
