Poppy Selling on Hounslow High Street

I have read a report elsewhere that someone tried to ban poppy selling on Hounslow High Street.Does anyone know anything about this ?If so, who tried to ban it and why ?

That's precisely the point in that this would appear to be a training issue rather than one of special rules being applied for any particular group of people.  I can't see what it has to do with imaginary bans on poppy sellers either to be honest.

You are allowed to take a well behaved dog onto a bus whether it's a working dog or not.

Muslims as far as I know believe dogs are dirty animals, I saw a young Muslim lad on the T.V. who eventually was persuaded to have a guide dog and he got special dispensation from the Imam and the dog now waits just inside the Mosque. The family have gradually come round to the wonderful job these animals do. I would think any bus company would not allow drivers to bar working/support dogs.

It's no more ridiculous than Muslim bus drivers banning guide dogs on their busses !Britain first or the right wing never made that up !

Spoke with two sellers today in Hounslow , one in the High St & one in Asdas who said that they have not had any problems.

I'm more interested to know why Poppy Scotland, according to their website benefits only servicemen/women from Scotland whereas the Royal British Legion, according to their website, benefits servicemen and women from across the UK.

PhilI suspect you are right. It is probably a scare story dreamed up by far right groups such as Britain First which is now very active on the internet spreading Islamophobia and xenophobia . It has since been confirmed that poppies were on sale on Hounslow High Street last week.

Yes, I too think it is unlikely.  For one, who would have the authority to ban an activity such as this throughout the High Street?  The police?  They have not banned it anywhere else to my knowledge.Every year I read stories of Muslims apparently being offended by the presence of poppy sellers.  I have to say that I have been selling poppies on the streets for many years and on the very few occasions that I have received abuse it has been from (invariably white and one assumes ostensibly Christian) anti-war protestors who for some reason seem to assume that I am pro-war.  Some Muslims buy poppies, others walk politely by.Please treat stories like these with the contempt they deserve.
