Street Tree Survey HM Magazine

Tucked away in the free HM Magazine is a Street Tree Survey from the Council.  I would urge anyone who lives in a tree lined street to complete this form and return it (freepost) to the Council.As someone who lives with a huge tree on the pavement just 8ft from the front of my house, I think it is important that the Council maintain the existing stock of trees with regular pruning etc before considering further planting, particularly when they only have a limited budget.From experience it can take months to get any action from the council if you notify them that trees are too big and require pruning because branches are either damaging your telephone lines or worse you property!

Well done, Jim & PAul, for sorting this thread out!  Jim for starting the HM thread which was clogging this one, and Paul for the link to see the actual survey.Mind if I move my comment over from the other thread?I am hoping that this survey is not just in HM magazine?  As far as a survey goes - well it is a start.  I am not at all sure about the questions and what it will imply if everyone who sends back a questionaire is fed up because their house is hemmed in by a tree/stopping them parking across the pavement?  What guidelines were drawn up to decide on the questions?Oh, for goodness sake - The positive is there is a point of consultation - the negative?  what relevance has this consultation to the existing drawn up environmental policies, which should be, being encouraged (living) in-use and enforced, anyway? Involving people in a half hearted questionaire, which might lead to conflicting opinions which are not entwined with the existing envionmental policies (involving people in something where their opinions really don't count - such as airport expansion) will only cause more upset and resentment about the Borough Management?

There’s No doubt that everyone will receive their copy of the HM magazine in due course.As there seems to be a large number of residents wishing to see the Street Tree Survey that’s included in the HM magazine, I have converted my copy to a pdf file and uploaded it to a free web space provider.Please remember this copy is of my form received through the door the other day in Chiswick, and is of pore quality due to being compressed for a quick download time, and is only to show you what the form looks like, and is not to intended to be used for the survey.The original form remains the copyright of the HM magazine and They’re Publishers, The Big Agency www.big-agency.com  or view the HM online at www.hounslow.gov.uk

Gareth or any of you racing persons ...If there are only 2 copies of this survey around, (Sula has one, and I have the other) what are the odds on winning the £100 tree survey?1.  Very poor, because all the other copies of HM magazine are inside the Fortress and are being filled in frantically by committee attendees, in the stale sarnie snaffling breaks?2.  Even poorer because the post room persons are in a huff as they weren't included, and they have a shredding machine?3. Absolutely superb because Sula and I have agreed a 50/50 split if she or I win?;-)

Corinna, Any idea how much this fortnightly publication costs to produce and distribute,as a matter of interest?I do find it  useful for departmental phone no.'s etc and the odd feature is interesting,but I don't think it would be diminished in any way as a service if it was a monthly publication.

Hi JimThe copy of HM Magazine was put through our door last weekend. Unfortunately I pulled out the questionnaire and recycled the rest of the magazine.  The return address was to the Community Environment Team.  The final question was asking if you would like to become a tree warden for your street.  Reporting any damage or other issues after some training.  which I think is a good idea.  I welcome the trees in our road and love the colour and wild life they bring, but for a tree to remain healthy it does needs to be looked after.

Sula: Could I ask you which issue of HM Magazine that was in..and if possible which page..Normally the issue is fortnightly but many residents seem not to receive it safely. There were issues on 2nd Dec and and 16th Dec..then I believe there was a gap until 2nd Feb.Corrina: Thanks for your information. As one gets older..trees become more noticeable. Pity about the great (wind) storm that night in 1987(?)..Thornbury Road trees sadly missed..and I'm sure others too!

Just tried to see if the questionaire is on the Councils website...cant see it after a quick browse..I'll ask someone tomorrow if its on there, usually these questionaires are in the Library.

Its not weekly, its fortnightly!There have been some problems with where its being delivered too...if you dont get it every fortnight let me know on here!I can then pass the message back to the Council it will be the distributors problem not delivering...so it can be chased up!On to tree survey."Hounslow Council is currently working on a borough wide strategy and would like to hear your views. We don't get HM magazine on a regular basis.  I didn't realise it is a weekly?I would be interested in reading about the value of the trees, which is the most important factor.  What is the purpose of the questionaire?
