Something Positive Please

I understand that some people have (largely) legitimate gripes with one thing and another and believe me, I have a few of my own. I do sometimes despair though at the lack of anything (much) positive  about Brentford/Isleworth/other, the council/councillors and so on. Generally speaking, it is also the same few people doing the griping. I particularly don't like the fairly frequent labelling of other people as 'pillocks', people you wonder at having the vote and so on. I enjoyed reading the post this morning about somebody who used to jump off the barges into the Thames to swim - that was 'then' though. What can we find positive to say now? I'll kick off by saying that I live in a friendly street where neighbours speak to one another. (Apart from those few who have been ostracised by bagging 'their' bit of the road, that is!)

I think jumping off a barge could be a bit chilly right now?  Although being someone from up North should be a bit hardier ?  On wanting a positive Brentford has a community feel but since Age Concern became Age UK and sold out our lovely older community, then moved to Hounslow a lot of Community Spirit has gone ...  Positive lets get it back, posts anywhere if you care and let's reignite that spark

"All it needs is a council that listens to its residents..."Careful Samantha or we'll be back to square one!! :)Seriously though, I do agree.  Brentford has a very distinct community feel and is very much like Isleworth in that regard, indeed there is a great deal of interaction between the two.  I can't think of anywhere else in the borough that has quite the same type of community spirit - Chiswick has one all of its own, but it is a different kind of ambience and not one that I think I'd feel personally at ease with, but each very much to their own.  Enhance Brentford, regenerate it, but don't overwhelm it or we will lose something special.

I completely agree but I guess the forum is only as interesting as the people posting.  Unfortunately, it tends to start off with something positive or at least valid and then it deteriorates into something negative which has nothing to do with the original post and the same people seem to use it to score points off each other.I did not want to move to Brentford but am so glad I did.  It has friendly people, 2 museums, an arts centre, lovely parks and pretty good transpost.  All it needs is a council that listens to its residents, some shops and a general tidy and it would be even better.

Yes Anne, I love where I live too!..I'm just off The Butts estate in a very quiet road and Im lucky enough to see swans, ducks etc waiting patiently for the woman opposite side of the river to give them their feed ( how do they know what time it is? they wait twice a day, same time every day ) My neighbours are all friendly except when some idiot parks in the recess and no one can turn their cars around..I love that a short walk on a sunday will take me to a rather nice coffee van (can't remember the name ) and have a wander around the farmers market..no car required.I never thought I would stay in Brentford as when I was younger I thought it was 'boring' and I couldn't understand how my late Gran could be so proud to be, in her words, a Brentonian'..but I was lucky enough to be given my council owned property in such a beutiful part of Brentford I have grown to love it.I went to Ealing Road school in the 70s  and then on to Brentford Girls and I still bump in to old school pals who obviously didn't feel the need to move out of town either!!Yes, there are negative aspects  but lets start as Anne says with some positive vibes...and a previous post tells us Jim Lawes will soon be back..good times!
