Samis Spice

Four of us went last night and all felt that the standards have really slipped since our last visit and now seems very expensive compared to what it used to beWe had four poppadoms,four starters and four main meals (all mid range)two rice and two breads plus two small cokes and a jug of water and the bill was over £65 for very ordinary foodReal shame as this was an excellent place to visit

Last Sunday we had a takeaway from Sami's. 4 mains a (large) naan all for £22.  We did the rice ourselves to save some money.  The food was excellent, and at £5.50 per head, great value.

Walked past Sami's at 9pm last night and was pleased to see almost every table taken.  A great atmosphere and buzz emanating.

The selection of Indian dishes in the New Thames though is almost non-existent.Sami's should be able to differentiate.

I suspect the Thames Restaurant opposite is causing them some concerns.  The place is buzzing at lunchtime during the weekends and most evenings too.  With a good value set price "gorge yourself to near death" menu, it would take a lot to beat it.

Hi NigelHopefully it was just a one off and I dont expect the chef works seven nights a week so perhaps they had a stand in on a Sunday but the food was pretty bland I have to say and quite small portiansWhat did make me laugh there though ws the size of the spoons they provided for the poppodom dips as they could have come straight out of a childs doll house they were so small

I was going to try Samis for the Sunday lunch buffet but it seems they don't do it anymore? Or at least its not mentioned on their website

If anything they should reduce prices (at least on Sunday) if the place is empty.The overheads have to be met and you don't do that with no cash flow.

simple economy...they need to increase prices to meet inflation, otherwise they will go out of business. £65 for four isnt that bad, under £20 each...you should what we need to pay in london for a crap sandwich lunch.....

Have to be honest it's not the price that concerns me Paul but your comment that it was 'very ordinary food'.It used to be exceptionally good. What was wrong with it or was it just 'average Indian restaurant' fare? If so, that's disappointing.

Thats a very good comparison to what we had so perhaps it was not that expensive to sit in and eat afterall

Priced up your menu at Mumbai2Go on South Ealing Road (takeaway/delivery only Indian).  With very basic starters (onion bhaji), rice and nan, the total comes to £55.  Assuming you selected a little more variety, this could easy reach over £60:Popadom  4x£0.50  £2.00Onion Bhaji  4x£3.05  £12.20Chicken Bhuna  4x£7.50  £30.00Pilau Rice  2x£2.75  £5.50Plain Nan  2x£2.25  £4.50Can Coke  2x£0.75  £1.50Total Bill £55.70

I don't think the price is excessive, even when we order for delivery from another Indian take-away (which doesn't offer dining facilities) for 2 of us we pay around £22 for two mains, two naans and 1 rice, so £65 in a restaurant for 4 starters and mains, plus sides and drinks seems pretty 'normal 'to me.But can see that sitting in an otherwise empty restaurant wouldn't be that appealing, although I don't think that's necessary a reflection on prices or quality (thinking back there's been numerous times I've dined in different restaurants on a Sunday evening and the places have been deserted despite serving good, well priced food).

Agree it sonds reasonable but when you could have an absolute banquet delivered for far less money from one of its many competitors then it hits home even more how much it costs to sit in an empty reataurant on a Sunday eveningReally hope this is just a glitch though as they try very hard and we will give it another go soon

£16.25 per head sounds very reasonable to me for all that food.  Is there anywhere local that can beat it?
