In kingston, today, we saw the crew from London’s air ambulance service scrabbling around waving buckets, asking people for pennies to help them keep the service going. What on earth?

Sarah Why do I feel like everything is run on a shoestring?Indeed, sad to say that like most services, we don't really appreciate them until we really need them and often by that stage, its too late. In this day and age it's crazy that a vital service such as the air ambulance service should have to rely on donations raised through buckets being rattled in shopping centres.

Acording to the web site http://www.hems-london.org.uk/ virgin pay half, the NHS pay some, and they raise the rest. Before the glaxo junction was re-designed they used to land every other month on the A4.

Virgin Airways used to sponsor the air ambulance so maybe they have now pulled out?

Sarah Sad I know but the same goes for the London Fire Brigade etc. What amazes me is that the Government doesn't fund the Lifeboat Service, a service which aside from operating around the coastline also operates in several locations along the Thames.
