I do see the anxiety over this park (or any park) But this was not to build on it and lose it for good.At least this was definitely temporary.A bit of a creative long term initiative could have resulted in a scrotty bit of the park getting a proper makeover afterwards and save the many job losses from businesses under serious pressure to relocate.Several of London's Squares used for various works projects have been beautifully restored afterwards. The meticulous restoration of Russell Square Gardens which looked careworn for decades has made it quite stunning.Similarly, Cavendish Square which was part excavated for a Car Park was very tatty ( we lived there for a short while until shortly after the work commenced) and is better than it was.If an underground car park means a fully restored Park and secured grounds above in perpetuity and landscaping payed for, then that's an opportunity that may never come again. But we are stuck with a lack of long term thinking and a Parks and Open spaces officer who can't wait, it seems, to offload the parks. A view also shared by Ealing's Leader Julian Bell who appears to be considering offloading parks to private companies as going concerns. That could end up being worse than a temp car park.
