Come to the Scrutiny Panel next week - Brent Leas

Next Wednesday 15th July, 7.00 pm at the Civic Centre. The Scrutiny Panel will decide if the Brent Leas decision should i) stand ii) be returned to Cabinet for reconsideration iii) go to a full Borough Council meeting for a decision.Those wishing to ask questions or make statement should contact  alan.weaver@hounslow.gov.uk by Monday, 13 July. Twenty minutes has been allocated to "public time" in the meeting.

I am afraid that I cannot agree with you. If anyone intended to use the Call In process as a cosmetic exercise then they failed - you cannot put lipstick on a pit bull and expect to fool many people.The decision that Cabinet will be asked to make next week will be subtly different from what was previously agreed but I fear that the end result will be much the same. I hope that I am wrong.Phil is of course right to ask what I or anyone else can do if the decision is "rubber stamped".  Councillor Hughes eloquently highlighted our dilemma last night - if the temporary school is not built at Brent Leas what will happen to the children who are supposed to be starting there in September. There does not appear to be a credible Plan B.No one wants to play petty politics with the lives and prospects of young children.

I agree with Sam, the whole Scrutiny thing will have been largely a cosmetic exercise to give greatly validity to a decision already taken.Knowing that Sam and his colleagues are not ones for petty posturing, I wonder what their next move will be once the original decision is rubber-stamped by Cabinet?

Largely a "wool pulled over eyes" exercise IMHO.The granting of the 125 year lease on the recreation ground will now follow rather than precede the submission of a  planning application for a permanent school on the site. There was an apology from Steve Curran (as I recall) about the lack of timely public consultation. The meat in the sandwich remains the same. We should not need a review of MOL. This is just a face saving device.

I gather that the Scrutiny Panel decision was to refer this back to the Cabinet for review and there will also be a review looking at all the M.O.L. later in the year. Members were not happy that they felt they'd been misled at planning over the 'two year temporary' permission. Were you not happy with any of that?
