BRS CPZ story, front page

At a quick estimate, that works out at 40 tickets on average per week for the last six weeks. What is the cost of a fine - does anybody know?Re how often the patrol comes around, for two consecutive days this week I have seen an 'officer' in Braemar. The first day I happened to go out the front and witnessed the van pull up, the officer get out and go straight to the car of the workman (ladder on top) who was working in my house. Seeing that there was a ticket displayed, he got back into his car and left.I didn't vote for the scheme on any of the three occasions it went to vote although now I must admit it is a joy to be able to just pull up virtually in front of the house. Am I the only person who feels some guilt at seeing all the empty spaces though?

Actually, thank goodness some residents did not just moan but took action.Otherwise we would  a, have had no CPZ at all and the rapid increase in parking caused by external sources would have continued orb. a draconian CPZ scheme implemented which would have been hugely restrictive to normal day to day life.I'm not a fan of CPZs at all. In the wrong hands, they are used as a cash cow and penalise residents heavily.  But it was obvious that things were becoming  critical.I'm really surprised how effective the scheme adopted has been and am truly thankful to those handful of residents who petitioned and put great thought and research into finding a fair solution.

It always seemed to me that it was the people who wanted the CPZ who did the moaning! (I haven't seen the blog and am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I'm not even too sure what a blog is ...).

It makes me so happy to see that all the lovely people of area are finally seeing that it wasn't such a bad idea after all. The blog got a bit too intimidating for me. The benefits are obvious: the moaners and  harassers are silenced at last. Happy days.

Being able to go out on a match day and come back to spaces...priceless!  And the evening hour is also a godsend too especially when coming home from work later.  I have seen the 'spy car' quite a few times, but I think they do need to police it more in the evening, especially with the long wheel base vans that seem to love Mafeking Avenue!!

Yes the 7- 8 restriction was tested for the first time last night for first of this seasons midweek matches.  I got home and parked up by 7.20. Something I have never been able to do on a matchday - or most evenings come to that!So we went to the game.....Now that was a big mistake !A big thanks to those who proposed the late hour. It really works and shows what can be done when local people who really know the area they live in get involved.  And thanks to the councillors and the council officer who, for once stopped and listened.

Swathes of empty spaces before the football yesterday, you wouldn't have got that before the CPZ.I did see a car getting towed away from Clifden Road.  Not sure what the violation was but someone will have had a shock when returning to get their car.

I don't feel guilty at all about some empty daytime space!  It is wonderful to be able to park in front of my own house and unload shopping without having to do it in half-a-dozen small journeys, from two or even three roads away, which is what happened before.

It's certainly policed, I've seen the little spy car quite a lot in the evenings but what is noticeable is it is so much easier to park when arriving home in the evening even after 8. And much quieter as an extra bonus.So even without policing it is by far the best benefit albeit a bit of a pain for visiting guests.  6.30 -7.30 was, I believe the preference but this would have led to a last min scramble for football nights and thus meant another tier to deal with that.Not so on Saturday nights and sundays when it is back to the way it was.

The morning restriction has certainly made a huge difference during the day, it just shows how many commuters and other non-residents were parking around Griffin park.  There is much less of a difference in the evening.  Talking to many neighbours most are of the opinion the evening restriction is rarely, if ever, policed. I emailed Andrew Nye about this and he did admit that "The Council’s resources for evening enforcement have, been limited. ".  He claimed that since June the Council had increased the resources set aside for parking enforcement but I've seen no evidence of that - I've not seen a single enforcement officer in the evening.I'd be interested in other resident's views on the evening restriction.

I was certainly sceptical at the least and vehemently against the original proposed scheme.I cannot thank enough those local residents who put a lot of time and effort in petitioning and coming back to LBH with a less draconian proposal that has really worked and made a difference.And also to those councillors who for once listened and supported the ideas. There are a few issues with policy that seems to be influenced by Serco on Ealing Brent and Hounslow which may lead to huge hikes and harsh restrictions for residents and I hope councillors will resist these pressures and remember it is for residents not against residents.
