Recycle Bags & Bins Gone!

I've noted and observed recycle bins and bags being dumped all over the street. Many dwellings in TW8 are maisonettes and more often than not only one plastic recycle bag is returned after collection. And broken bins aren't replaced but simply abandoned in the street or side alleys. It takes an online form to be filled out to get replacements. Surely the contractors should be keeping an eye out on these issues during their collections. It seems it's above the collectors job remit to do that?

I agree that I think that we expect an awful lot of the operatives when you can't expect them to do any more than they are contracted to do. We should all be checking the Council website to see what we can recycle and where and how and keeping the information that is issued.  Also remember that this can change. I am amazed at how often someone tells me that something can be recycled "because the operatives took it".  The operatives don't make and sign the contracts and are often untrained.In an ideal situation there would be much more teamwork. LBH was advertising for more Recycling Officers some time ago and you would hope that they would be monitoring what is happening on the street as well as someone from the Contractors.  We need to complain once we have checked that whatever we have been doing is as per instruction otherwise everybody thinks that the contract is being carried out properly. Make sure that you put your address number on your bags and boxes and then you can help each other by returning them to each other.

It's the same where I live and they are houses around here, I can't tell you how many times you have to go on the hunt for your own bags and boxes after a collection. To be honest these contracts are pared right down to the bone and I don't suppose the operatives are on much more than the minimum, you only get what you pay for I'm afraid. A well-paid workforce is a more happy and efficient workforce - a lesson still needing to learned by many.
