Verdict now open

Lovely opening evening at Verdict in the old Magistrates' Court. Delicious food, very good wine and lovely atmosphere in a stunningly refurbished setting. Well done Aaron and the team - just what Brentford needs!

Nothing like a British Custard tart, which is nothing like the ones found in Supermarkets and are now so rare.  Made properly, the humble british custard tart is as good as any continental variant.Portuguese ones are nice but the Verdict ones are 9 times the price of the ones you can buy anywhere in Lisbon. Any higher and it would be cheaper to take Ryanair and by a crate of them and sell them at the market!But where is the great British regional fare and baking that seems to have vanished long ago, replaced by the homogenised efforts of United Biscuits and factory bakeries.Maybe they should have custard tart week with all the variants from around the world.Better put West Mid on alert.

Since it's become a 'bakery' that doesn't sell loaves of bread or bread rolls I haven't been in there.

We had a lovely lunch at The Verdict yesterday afternoon. Agree there's not much on the sandwich menu but the breakfast/lunch menus were fine.  Eggs Benedict was perfect and the omelette huge.  Will definitely go there again.

Had a group of friends there last Saturday night before the Rugby.  I again opted for the burger and was not disappointed.  also loved their craft Table beer.  Others had the Chicken with mushroom sauce and mash with seasonal greens on the side.  Was very well liked.  Overall a good night with some very reasonable wine included just a shame about the Rugby.

It's excellent.  A perfect fit into the existing establishments and with a delightful terrace that will hopefully have tables and chairs from which to soak up the atmosphere on a sunny day.

I went in for lunch yesterday with the wife.  Was a bit confused what was on offer for lunch as the menus were only for breakfast or evening dinner.  The blackboard outside advertises sandwiches and paninis but all I could see on the menu were toasties?  Was contemplating ordering one when I saw a rather sad looking toastie served up to the next table.  At £6 a shot I expected it to look a bit more appetizing and served a bit better.I'm rather disappointed to say that we walked out.

I went and got a takeaway Chicken & Bacon sandwich with a sausage roll for my lunch today and it was lovely! The restaurant is great and just what Brentford needs in my opinion!!I am looking forward to trying it out for lunch on Saturday with my other half.

I had a wee problem with my take-away scones James...but we must encourage them to carry on... and where necessary get to grips. A lot of time and money has been invested in the venture, and they have a plum site...so they've got to invite feedback and take it onboard. The very pleasant but exhausted looking baker didn't know of this website Forum..... was not a cyberspace devotee... and just gets on!Make a visit!

Jim - I don't think you can get it locally. I usually go to the branch behind the Peter Jones Delivery depot and I think you can also get some of their stuff in Selfridges.On a slightly negative note I bought the other half a pain au raisin and it got the thumbs down - too dry and not enough fruit!

If it helps Jim, the bakery on St. John's Road sells a rather nice potato flour roll, or at least did a few months ago.

It's a YES from me too.James refers to Baker and Spice. I wonder where that can be obtained locally. I just love their Rosemary and Potato bread (toasted with marmalade) but have only been able to get that from Elizabeth Street, Victoria.The Proprietor at the Verdict is very busy making his cakes in the morning and hasn't got time to update the website...but uses Instagram. They are not busily advertising... just wanting to settle in with this new venture.It's a knock out location.  'No hand cuffs in sight' I said suggesting that the place could have a bit more édge' !His  sugar free bread is bought in from a Bakery in Alperton....and I have enjoyed the Granary loaf  and Baguette we bough.  Scones and honey we bought too.It will be interesting how noisy it will get when many people are there. Sometimes acoustics are detrimental to a good chat with other people on your table.I'll certainly be making a regular visit and wish it well.  Reg? Your turn!

Popped in this morning - I hope it does well ( although I bought a sourdough loaf and whilst it was cheaper than Gail's / Baker & Spice I didn't think it was as good).The daytime menu looked good and as these places go not unreasonably priced - if it can get into its stride I can see it giving the food operation a run for its money. Will be interesting what affect it has on Time Cafe ( in my opinion it is way better than Time).

Just popped in for a very decent coffee.  Let's hope it gets the footfall it needs - this is a huge benefit for Brentford.

Had a burger and beer last night at the Verdict.  Was a 10 out of 10 for me.  The burger was perfect and the table beer was really hop-tastic. How lucky we are to have new cafe/bakery/restaurant.

Just bought a few rolls and a small granary. Bit pricey for the bread but good quality and tasty. I am not a fan of Gregg's, and Morrison's baked in store bread always seems to disappoint. Looks like a nice place to eat in too.
