Ironic or hypocritical?

See that the front page of The Chronicle reports that Hounslow council have cashed in on renting out their multi storey Civic Centre car park for Rugby fans who can then jump on a shuttle to Twickers. Yet, enterprising residents associations etc. were jumped on from a great height when they wanted to raise much needed funds by doing the very same. the Dear Leader banging on about 'special insurance'  and a hundred and one spurious reasons why they couldn't be allowed to the same in their car parks. Hounslow reckon to earn a cool £1000K, a clear case of don't do as I do - do as I tell you?

I'm guessing the car park is owned by the Council, a democratically-elected entity the sole purpose of which is to serve the people, who as their part of the deal pay their wages.My understanding is that the new mindset which now prevails in the Labour Party - which manages (sorry, "controls") the London Borough of Hounslow - is very receptive to the principle of empowering communities.Clearly those to whom the notion remains anathema will need time to readjust.

Couple of questions...    Who owns the site that the Residents Association stands on?    Is the Civic Centre car park festooned with signs saying in effect "It's tough titty if you park here and your vehicle gets damaged in any way, we are not responsible for anything"?Ta!

It's the control agenda - again! Residents' groups which manage to earn themselves a few quid become less dependent and hence more empowered.  Our local political leaders want a borough where such groups only exist by grace and favour, and in which only politically compliant groups are allowed the space in which to operate.I think many of these people may have been bullied at school.
