Estate Clean up - Sucesss

On Thursday 22nd October The Ivybridge Tenants Action Group arranged a community Clean up on Ivybridge Estate.The day was a great success and over 30 people turnt out for it.We would like to thank TK Max, Tesco, Oakwood Merchandise, Bridgelink Community Center, The Isleworth SNT, All Souls Church, Hounslow Highways, Local residents and a Cllr Lynda Green.

Well done Simon.  We could do with those public campaigns of the 70's.  Keep Britain tidy ... Wear white at night ...need to have one about chewing gum too, methinks.

I find it funny they spend their time knocking on doors telling people you cant leave Bikes, Prams in the communal area's but they never remove any off them.This is why residents just leave the items where they are as they know the council are full off hot air.You go in some blocks on here there are up to 6 bikes in the communal area or up to 5 prams, but they seem to only target the doors in the Tower blocks.

This thing about telling residents to remove things from outside their front doors has become something of an obsession with many housing providers, both local authorities and housing associations.On the West Mid estate residents have had doormats confiscated on the grounds that they allegedly constitute a "fire hazard", yet bags of rubbish piled up in car parks and randomly dumped settees apparently aren't, which one assumes is why they are allowed to remain in situ for up to six months at a time.  Victims are told that they have 21 days in which to claim removed items, yet when they call after 10 days they are advised that the items have already been disposed of because the landlord didn't really expect anybody to read and to act upon the notices!The problem is that the people responsible for executing these directives understand what the rules are but don't really understand the objectives behind them.  It does also of course give us some indication of the attitude which exists amongst these types towards people in social housing.

Paul its getting worse with concierge the council have given them new things they have to do, Resident Checks, Block visits to get residents to move stuff outside their doors, Estate walk about's and if there is a Spillage say in Haweswater after say 4pm they have to close up and go and clean it up.

I wish more people would take the initiative to keep their streets tidy and litter-free.  It seems you got a fair number of people involved. Well done.  It is a sad community that steps over rubbish just because it isn't their rubbish.  It is their community!

It still amazes me that an estate the size of the Ivybridge only has one caretaker and the concierge situation is still beyond belief

Thank You Paul and Phil it was a great sucess and it had to be done as as you know Ivybridge is the biggest estate with only 1 Caretaker.Within 24hrs after our clean up the estate had litter on it again.But i was so grateful to Cllr Green for attending because she really cared and is helping us get the tower block bin's sorted because she said we should not have to live like this.

Great to see such a broad spectrum of support from across the community Simon, including one of the local ward councillors.  Well done for organising this excellent community event.
