Scam alert

Cllr Myra Savin reports (but has IT problems).A resident in York road has been approached by an aggressive scam artist. Says he's a surveyor of many years experience: structural problem in party wall in loft needs urgent attention to avoid catastrophe. Already agreed action with neighbour whose insurance will cover the costs but needs access and £4000 refundable deposit to get work started. Cash required no cheques, false company name given. Turns nasty when refused.Don't fall for it!

Perhaps he recognised her ability to simply get on and do things and not be side tracked by a desire to take unnecessary / unwarranted credit / publicity?

Myra works very hard for the ward - she just does it quietly. Plenty of residents will testify about her effectiveness dealing with their issues.Of course, you can't please all the people all the time!

To be honest I have no idea if Cllr Myra Savin is either a great or a useless councillor but most wards always seem to have at least one who whatever reason keeps out of the public limelight and he or she is highlighted as still being about by a colleague rather then being forgotten altogether

My neighbour had something similar a few months ago. Only they said they needed to install some machinery in the loft to get rid of damp, and it was supposedly agreed with the next door neighbour (who knew nothing about it). They wanted a few hundred pounds in cash as deposit for the equipment, which would be returned later.

But nonetheless possibly plausible and definitely intimidating to somebody who is elderly and/or confused.  Thank you Guy (and Myra) for the information - I will notify the postie who covers that area who in turn will, I'm sure, speak to locals as he goes about his work.  Community action Guy, it works! ;-)
