Congratulations to the Government for agreeing to meet with the 5 public sector unions to negotiate on the subject of pension age. No doubt the prospect of 1.5 million public sector workers striking in the run up to a general election helped concentrate minds, but we should be grateful that common sense has prevailed and wish all concerned success in the forthcoming negotiations.

It's not churlishness but a fear based on the reality of political expediency.The problem of financing public sector pensions is a vote loser and not a problem that will go away,election or not.

Yes, that thought had passed through a lot of minds, but if they do then they know what to expect and will only have themsleves to blame. But let's not be churlish, they've been given a chance it is entirely in the hands of the Government now to take it.

They may just be postponing the changes 'til after the election and then forcing them through,me thinks.
